CanCare

You Don’t Have to Face Cancer Alone

A cancer diagnosis can bring uncertainty, fear, and many questions for both patients and their loved ones. At Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg, we believe support should extend beyond medical treatment. That is why we are proud to connect our patients and families with CanCare, a nonprofit cancer support organization that offers free, one-on-one emotional support from people who truly understand.

What Is CanCare?

CanCare connects individuals facing cancer with trained volunteer cancer survivors and experienced caregivers. These volunteers have walked through cancer themselves or supported someone they love through the journey, and they are there to offer encouragement, understanding, and personal support.

This is not a hotline or automated service. CanCare provides a real person, thoughtfully matched to your experience, diagnosis, or role as a caregiver. Every volunteer completes CanCare’s training program, and conversations are private, personal, and guided by your comfort level.

Who Can Benefit From CanCare?

CanCare support is available to patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members at any stage of the cancer journey, including:

  • Patients who have recently been diagnosed and are unsure what to expect
  • Patients currently receiving treatment who want to talk with someone who understands
  • Survivors adjusting to life after treatment
  • Caregivers and loved ones who need support, encouragement, or guidance of their own

How It Works

Getting connected with CanCare is simple. You can ask your Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg care team to submit a referral on your behalf, or you can request support directly through CanCare.

Once your request is received, CanCare will match you with a trained volunteer who shares a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, or caregiver perspective. Within a few days, you will receive a welcome email introducing you to your match.

From there, the support is shaped around what feels right for you. You may choose to talk by phone, communicate by email, or simply know that someone is available when you are ready. Your CanCare volunteer will meet you where you are and follow your lead.

Free Support for Patients and Families

CanCare services are completely free for patients and their loved ones. There is no cost, no insurance requirement, and no obligation. This support is available to you because Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg wants every patient and family member to feel supported throughout their cancer journey.

Request Support From CanCare

You do not have to wait until you feel ready or know exactly what to say. CanCare volunteers are available for people at every stage, including those who are unsure where to begin.

Have You Been There? Consider Giving Back

If you are a cancer survivor or have cared for someone through cancer, you understand something deeply personal: what the experience can truly feel like. CanCare volunteers are survivors and caregivers who choose to use their own journey to bring hope, comfort, and encouragement to someone else.

Becoming a CanCare volunteer is a meaningful way to give back. CanCare provides the training you need, and you can decide how much time you are able to offer.
