Cancer Support Groups

Professional And Caring Cancer Support

Facing a cancer diagnosis is a life-altering experience that impacts every aspect of a person’s life—physically, emotionally and socially. It can come with feelings of uncertainty, isolation, anxiety and depression. At HOAF, our monthly cancer support groups are held at The Lodge in Fredericksburg and are perfect for patients at every stage. They provide a space to share experiences, gain strength and find hope while aiming to empower patients to continue to live a life worth living.

Support Group Update

Our monthly support group meetings are temporarily on hold. We will share new dates as soon as they are scheduled and look forward to welcoming patients, caregivers, and families back soon.

Benefits Of Monthly Cancer Support Groups

These groups connect individuals who truly understand the challenges of living with cancer, creating a community of empathy, encouragement and mutual support. Attending cancer support groups can empower patients to cope more effectively, reduce feelings of loneliness and learn practical strategies for managing their condition.

Led by an experienced HOAF team member, our cancer support groups offer an opportunity to connect with other cancer patients and receive much needed professional support by:

  • Helping you feel less alone: Together, patients can find comfort, inspiration and a renewed sense of resilience on the road to healing.

  • Offering a place to talk about your feelings: Cancer support groups give patients an opportunity to open up about the complicated emotions around cancer with other people who are going through similar experiences.

  • Increasing your cancer knowledge: Our nurse practitioner covers a different topic each week, offering patients a unique medical and professional perspective that can help them learn more about living with cancer.

  • Improving your quality of life: Support groups can help enhance a patient’s quality of life and even increase the chance of survival.

About Our Monthly Cancer Support Groups

Caregiver & Family Support

As a caregiver or family member of a loved one with cancer, taking care of yourself is an important part of the job. Caregiving typically includes both physical and emotional demands, which can be hard on your body and mind and relationships. We also encourage family members and caregivers to attend our cancer support groups, where we are happy to provide you with the resources you need to care with confidence while also nurturing your own emotional needs.

Our support for caregivers focuses on all aspects of caregiving, including financial aspects, juggling taking loved ones to and from appointments, taking care of your own family or kids as well as finding the joy and connection in caregiving.
