Dr. Matthew Whitehurst is board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. He joined the HOAF family in 2015 and sees patients at The Pines location in Fredericksburg, VA. Dr. Whitehurst received his Bachelor of Science from James Madison University. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he also completed his internal medicine residency. After his residency, he traveled down south to accomplish a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and University of South Florida.Ā 

Dr. Whitehurst delivers patient-centered, evidence-based cancer care to individuals with simple to complex cancer conditions, addressing each patient’s unique needs with precision and compassion. He has actively contributed to a variety of research efforts, including prospective, retrospective and pilot studies. Furthermore, he is always up to date with the latest treatment advancements to provide his patients with top-notch cancer care.

You’ll find Dr. Whitehurst’s name under several peer-reviewed articles and journals. He is also a member of many renowned professional associations such as the Society of

Hematologic Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Medical Association.

Outside of the office, you will likely find Dr. Whitehurst spending time with his family. He also enjoys running, biking, skiing, listening to music and watching the Baltimore Ravens games.
