Hydration
IV Infusion In Fredericksburg & Stafford, VA
At HOAF, we are dedicated to helping patients feel their best. Our bodies are largely made up of water, and we rely on it to function. Our team may recommend hydration infusion to treat dehydrated patients or prevent dehydration in patients who are undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy. These infusions are completely safe and performed from the comfort of our low-stress and relaxing clinic environment.
What Is Hydration Infusion?
During the infusion process, patients receive IV fluids through an IV (intravenous) tube. There are two different types. Crystalloid solutions are the most common and contain small molecules that pass with ease from the bloodstream to the body’s cells and tissues, usually through a saline solution. Colloids are another type of infusion that uses larger molecules, which stay in the blood vessels. Our team will guide you in choosing the best hydration infusion for your needs and condition.
The Dangers Of Dehydration
Every cell of the body needs water to thrive. Dehydration occurs when there is not enough water in the body and can come with a host of harmful side effects. Those can include:
Symptoms Of Dehydration

Preparing For Your Infusion
Our team of hematologists and nurse practitioners are experts at hydration infusion. It is a simple and safe procedure overseen by our care team. Before your infusion, we will determine the type and amount of hydration that you will need, as well as how frequently you should receive the treatment. We strive to accommodate patients during infusions by providing attentive care and will even deliver your infusions on our large, scenic back porch if weather permits! Before your infusion, make sure to check out our tips on what to bring with you.
Hydration Infusion At HOAF
Our team will begin by disinfecting your skin where the IV will be placed—typically in the inside of your elbow or on the top of your hand. Then we will examine your veins and use an elastic band to make sure the blood is flowing to your vein. When you are ready, we will gently insert the needle and remove the elastic band, if used. From there, you will receive the infusion from a bag of fluids attached to your IV line. During your infusion, we will check on you periodically to make sure the IV is functioning properly and that you feel comfortable.
Hydration Infusion Aftercare
Infusions are pain free and require no downtime—making them an easy procedure for all of our patients to help them feel better! They are also fast-working, and you should feel the effects relatively quickly. After receiving IV fluids, you can return to your daily activities with ease and without worry.
